When you bring your vehicle into a shop you are paying for a skill. The time frames give an idea how long a highly skilled tech will take to fix your vehicle and from this we have a standard by which to bill and pay. Need more time? Every time the tech sips coffee the clock stops. Every time he picks up his wrench it begins again. In the end the time study engineer adds time for many things, such as obtaining a special tool from a tool crib, many things get added, then on top they add time for breaks, vacation pay, sick pay, virtually every overhead time including toilet breaks are added into the time requirement.
There is a multiplier for fixing a bad repair even if it is only. It all adds up. All this time includes the time until the keys are back in the key safe and the vehicle is ready for delivery. Then guess what, they add the time for the salesman and for the processing of the work order…virtually EVERY cost is added in, even for how long it takes to move the old parts to the counter and later to the garbage.

No one is ever at risk with the book numbers on average…if a majoor problem happens it will be RARE and costly…but the benifits outweigh the risks for the House and for the tech, they can average twice the normal rate overall.
